Breeding Grounds, natural watercolours on paper, 2018
Breeding groungs, 2018
Nature has been a source of lifelong inspiration in my artwork. As I reflect on my current struggles as an immigrant, I find comparison with the life of air plants, their rootlessness and ability to thrive as part of an overwhelming diversity. This painting represents the first stage of encounter with a new place, when its dynamism and richness are almost alienating. This is communicated through a distant perspective and repeating lines of branches, creating a separation between the viewer and the subjects.
