Cornucopia

Nature has been a source of lifelong inspiration in my artwork. As I reflect on my current struggles as an immigrant, I find comparison with the life of air plants, their rootlessness and ability to thrive as part of an overwhelming diversity. This painting represents the last stage of adjustment to a new place, in which the individual finds their place in the collective existence by becoming part of a community. This feeling of community is transmitted through a representation in black and white, indicating a level of sameness, while relying on the variety of shapes and textures to represent the individuality of each member of the community.
